If you want to be a Man of Impact in your home, work, church and personal ministry, it is vital that you are a committed student of the Word of God – because it is the true source of power for everything else you do. Without the ability to study the scriptures deeply and help others do the same, any discipleship or outreach ministry you pursue will be far less fruitful than it could be. Your wife, your children, and anyone else you minister to need you to point them to the only thing that can really transform a life – God’s Word.
In this sermon John MacArthur explains the importance of expository teaching (going through a book of the Bible chapter by chapter and verse by verse, carefully pulling as much original meaning out of the texts as possible) in spiritual growth, and how expository preaching by pastors models effective Bible study for those within the church – which allows believers sitting under that teaching to go out and do the same for others.
Here’s a brief excerpt from the message:
“A pastor then, above all else, is a preacher of biblical truth. I know that must be obvious to all of you, but it doesn’t appear to be obvious to everybody. We are above all else preachers. The Apostle Paul summed up the responsibility of Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2, “Preach the Word, preach the Word, in season, out of season,” which means all the time, “preach the Word.” There are a lot of reasons for that because there are doctrinal dangers all around, because this is the baton that you have been handed by faithful men of the past… Preach the Word also because the Word has the power. It has the power to save and it has the power to make you mature and perfect in Christ.”
This topic may not seem as thrilling as others you will find on this site – but trust me… this is where the true power to transform lives is found! I hope you invest the time to watch, read or listen to this sermon, and that you are encouraged and blessed in your ministry to your family and beyond by what you discover.
