If you are a committed follower of Christ, I can tell you with 100% certainty the ULTIMATE CALLING God has for your life! That’s because as believers in Christ we all have the same two life callings that should serve as the foundation for everything we do:
“Love the LORD your God with ALL your heart, with ALL your soul, and with ALL your mind” (the Greatest Commandment, Matthew 22:37)
“Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…” (the Great Commission, Matthew 28:19-20).
Your “Ultimate Purpose” is to pursue your relationship with God to the highest degree possible for the rest of your life, and along the way help others to know Christ and become mature disciples who are capable of doing the same.
In other words, you have been called to a life of Personal Ministry that should transcend everything else you do. That doesn’t mean you need to quit whatever you are doing now and become a full-time church worker or overseas missionary (unless you feel God is calling you to do so!)- it simply means that God wants you to think and act like a disciple-maker every day – at home, at work, and everywhere else He takes you.
There’s no need to ponder what your life’s purpose is – this is it!!! The only questions revolve around the details of how God wants you to live out that calling in your unique spheres of influence.
We’ll take a closer look at exactly how to do that in future posts. For now, set aside some time alone with God and ask Him to help you more fully understand what His “ultimate purposes” are for your life, and how to make the Greatest Commandment and Great Commission the absolute center of everything you do!
